To a 0.1 M solution of 1-phenylbut-2-yn-1-ol (1 mmol) in ethylvinyl ether was added to
0.6 mmol of mercuric acetate. The reaction mixture was refluxed at 45 °C for 12 hours before quenching with a saturated aqueous sodium carbonate solution. The organic phase was extracted using diethyl ether and dried over anhydrous potassium carbonate. The solvent was removed under vacuum and the crude vinyl ether was purified on alumina gel column using hexane as aneluent. Vinyl ether was obtained in 60% yield (0.1g).
